Handsworth is a member house of The Union of the Sisters of Mercy of England, Scotland and Wales. It is a very significant place for all Sisters of Mercy because it was the second house personally founded in England by our Foundress Catherine McAuley and the last foundation before her death.
Today it is a house of Heritage, a place of pilgrimage and prayer with a wide outreach into the socially deprived area in which it is situated. The Sisters ministering in Handsworth form a collaborative community drawn from the three branches of the Sisters of Mercy of Great Britain. Mary, Alphonsus and Kathleen are from the Union; Helen from the Federation and Barbara from the Institution.
